The Pythagorean Theorem was developed [in principle] by the Babylonians [the ancient math-miracle makers ] but is credited to its namesake, Pythagoras .

Theorem of Pythagoras
There are more than 300 different ways to prove its viability. It is most easily proven visually using a proof by rearrangement.
Pythagorean Theorem can only be used on right triangles which ties directly in with using our basic Trigonometric Functions[SOHCAHTOA].

The Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem can also be used to determine if a triangle is a right triangle.

Certain sets side lengths have been discovered to create right triangles. These are called Pythagorean Triples . For example, the side lengths of 3, 4, and 5 will always create a right triangle because 32+42=52 ~ 9+16=25 ~ 25=25. Here is a list of Pythagorean Triples.

The Pythagorean Theorem can be used with simple application problems as well as detailed word problems that could also be solved using SOHCAHTOA .
